The summer meetings of the Aroostook Retired Educators Association (AREA). Registration will continue on Tuesday, July 21 at Nadeau Hall, University of Maine at Fort Kent. The program will be Senior College.
The third meeting will be held Aug. 18 at the Edmunds Center, Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle. The program will feature Dottie Sines presenting “Laughter.”
The final meeting of the summer will be held Sept. 22 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. Pat Bennet will present “Trusts and Wills.” Dan Ladner will provide the entertainment, and the installation of new officers will follow.
Registration for each of the summer meetings will be at 11 a.m. with lunch to follow at a cost of $13.
Once again AREA will continue to collect canned goods and nonperishable items to be distributed to local food pantries. Donations may be brought to the meetings.
The group will also participate in this year’s annual “Day of Caring” to be held in September. Each county affiliate plans a special project to benefit the students in that county. This year AREA continues the three-year project, “Bulging Backpack,” which involves filling a backpack with school supplies and donating it to an area school. Donations for this project may also be brought to the summer meetings.
AREA membership dues are $7 and all retired educators are encouraged to join. Valuable information is shared, friendships are renewed, and the community projects are greatly appreciated.
