HOULTON & HAYNESVILLE – Michael John Ireland, 66, passed away at his Haynesville residence Saturday, July 11, 2015. He was born July 18, 1948, in Houlton, the son of Leo L. and Florence (Hill) Ireland.
Michael served in the U.S. Army, the National Guard and the Army Reserves for a total of 24 years. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. Michael served as a U.S. Customs Officer in Forest City until his retirement July 31, 2007.
He was a member of the Haynesville Baptist Church, the Houlton Lions Club and served two years on the Board of Budget Review. He was a Hospice of Aroostook volunteer. Michael loved hunting and fishing. He was a Civil War buff. Michael enjoyed spending time with his great-nieces and nephews.
Michael is survived by his brother, David Ireland and his wife, Judy, of Haynesville; niece, Shona and her husband SMSgt. Nathan McNeely of Langley, Virginia and their daughter Meadow; niece, Bridgette Ireland of Houlton and her children, Skylar and Micah; nephew, Jeremy Ireland of Littleton and his children, Alexis and Jeremiah; special friends, Doreen Humphrey, Mary Grant, Mary Smith, Janet Bates, Rick McGary and Charlene McGary. He was predeceased by his parents.
Friends called at the Dunn Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. A celebration of Michael’s life was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Joan Sullivan officiating.
