Future Volunteer Day in the making
With the groundbreaking of the new community center taking place on July 9,2015, the City Council decided at their July 6 meeting to dedicate the 2014 Annual Report to all those who have donated to the community center project. With work officially underway, it is an exciting time for the city of Presque Isle.
City Manager, James Bennett recommended that Presque Isle go directly into the bond market for permanent financing on the community center project. It was decided that the Audit Committee will be interviewing Joseph Cuetara, senior VP of Moors & Cabot and Richard Ranaghan, senior VP of Gorham Savings Bank. Once a firm is selected, they will assist the city in hopes of securing a higher bond rating. If the city can increase their rating, it will have a direct impact; lowering the interest. The selected financial adviser will also sell the bonds on the market.
The city council also agreed to have a Volunteer Day policy written up. The concept of Volunteer Day would be for city employees to dedicate one day a year to work on a local charity. Further discussion of the policy will take place at a future meeting.
A workshop regarding the future of City Hall has been scheduled for Monday, July 20. The next City Council meeting will be held Monday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
