Beckum runs fastest mile

CARIBOU, Maine — Seventeen-year-old Dillon Beckum of La Verne, Calif. was the winner of Friday’s Musterd Mile, a one-mile race that began at Caribou High School and ended at Monica’s Scandinavian Gift Shop.

The race is part of the Aroostook Musterds Running Club’s County Challenge Racing Series.

Beckum had a time of 4 minutes and 22 seconds. Paul Johnson of Fort Fairfield was second in 4:41, while Tom Beckum of Caribou took third in 4:44.

       Bradley Burlock and Mitchell St. Peter, both of Caribou, were fourth and fifth, respectively. Burlock came in at 4:45 and St. Peter 4:46. Chris Rines of Houlton was less than a second behind St. Peter and took the sixth position, followed by Nick Lunn of Hodgdon in 4:47.

       Caribou runners Chathu Karunasiri (4:50), Lukas Lagasse (4:53) and Caleb Hunter (4:57) rounded out the top 10. Evan Desmond of Caribou was 11th and the only other runner to run a sub-five minute mile, coming in at 4:58.

       The women’s winner was Madeline Gudde, whose time was 5:45. Teagan Ewings was next in 5:58, followed by Julia Page in 6:04.

Forty five runners competed in the annual event.
