Fair pavilion showcases local history’s mysteries

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine The Northern Maine Fair’s 18th Historical Pavilion and Living History Demonstration will take place in the Forum Tuesday, July 28, through Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. daily.

Admission to the Historical Pavilion is free with paid admission to the fair.

Co-chairs Jim and Cara Kent invite participants to take a fun and educational walk through Aroostook County’s past while visiting with area historical societies, museums, living history demonstrators, and longtime civic groups and businesses. There will be folks in authentic period clothing, antique machinery and vehicles, Boy Scout and Girl Scout memorabilia, a one-room schoolhouse and more.  Exhibitors are scheduled from all across Maine and Aroostook County.

“Not only is this fun and entertaining, but these types of exhibits have been shown to increase community awareness as well as civic identity and pride,” said the Kents. “There is truly something for everyone from antique carriages and vehicles to Civil War artifacts to oral history interviews and genealogy.”

The Aroostook County Genealogical Society will also be on hand to help explain how easy it is to find information about ancestors.  Visitors can try some old-time crafts and show children and grandchildren what it was like in the “good old days.”
