On Saturday, July 25, the Island Falls Lakes Association is hosting its 12th annual Around-the-Pond Canoe/Kayak Race at Birch Point Lodge and Campgrounds on Pleasant Lake. Registration will take place at Birch Point from 9-9:45 a.m. that morning. Cost is $10 per person. The race starts at 10 a.m.
All proceeds from this race go to the Southern Aroostook Community School “Dollars for Scholars” program.
Organizers will provide a hot dog roast for all racers. A free T-shirt will be given to all registered paddlers. If you can’t participate please consider making a donation to IFLA to the Scholarship fund. Don’t miss this family fun event – you don’t need to be an expert to enter or win. There are categories at all levels.
On Tuesday, July 28, the Island Falls Lakes Association is holding its annual meeting and lobster/steak membership appreciation supper at the Big Valley Sno Club in Island Falls. A social time will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 5 p.m. and then the annual meeting.
The dinner menu is lobster or steak ($20) with salads, rolls, beverage and an ice cream social for dessert. Bring a pair of pickers and crackers! Please call Birch Point (463-2515) by Wednesday, July 22, to place an order for either lobster or steak. Attracting new members and advertising the Lake Association goals is foremost on the agenda.
