After displaying her skills at the Senior Class C-D All-star game, Allie McEwen of East Grand School was selected to the Maine High School Senior Team.
McEwen belted a two-run double in the senior all-star game and played shortstop. The East all-stars pulled out an 8-7 win.
From that game, McEwen was among 16 state players chosen to face the New Hampshire Senior All-stars on June 30 at St. Joseph’s College in Standish.
“I was surprised to be asked to play in the game,” said McEwen. “But, I was very honored and proud to represent my school. It was an amazing experience and I was happy I got the opportunity to play next to some of the best softball players in the state.”
McEwen teamed up with Miranda Achorn of Lincoln Academy; Melodie Bailey, Noble; Elly Bencivenga of Limestone/MSSM; Arika Brochu, Cony; Brooke Cross, Thornton Academy; Kylie Cunningham, Bangor; Sadie Ellsworth, Telstar; Sam Goode, Bucksport; Brooke Haskell, Winslow; Rachel Martin, Old Town; Abbie Paquette, Biddeford; Brittany Plowman, Scarborough; Kristal Smith, Gardiner; Bailey Tremblay, Thornton Academy and Brittany Ward, Searsport.
The Maine team played a doubleheader against New Hampshire. McEwen played shortstop. However, the Maine team was swept by New Hampshire.
McEwen is the first-ever softball player from East Grand School to receive this distinction.
“Officials usually pick mostly Class C kids from the whole state and then select a few Class D players,” Young explained. “But, the Maine Director, Dave Billings, liked the way Allison played and contacted her family straight off.”
McEwen graduated this year from East Grand School and is planning to attend the University of Maine Orono to study business administration.
“I am not playing softball in college,” she said. “But, I may play some intramural.”
She is the daughter of Laura and Bruce McEwen of Danforth.
