HODGDON – John Gardiner, 84, died July 14, 2015 in Bangor surrounded by his family. He was born June 2, 1931, in Houlton, the son of James and Astrid (Carstensen) Gardiner.
John planted potatoes for over 60 years, worked in the woods, enjoyed horses and raising cattle. John had a great sense of humor and was quite a prankster.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris (Fitzpatrick) Gardiner of Hodgdon; six children, Christina Mitchell of Gardiner, Brian and Lori Gardiner of Hammond, Ron Gardiner and Diana Barnes of Calais, Tammy and Doug Griffin of Hammond, Johnna and Tom Gilley of N. Yarmouth and Cindy Gardiner and Ronnie Fitzpatrick of Houlton; five grandchildren, Wendy, Kelli, Scott, Abby, and Kathryn as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Folsom of Houlton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John is predeceased by his parents; two grandchildren; and four brothers.
Friends called from noon until time of services at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18 at the Houlton Wesleyan Church, Kelleran St., Houlton with Reverend Wayne Robertson officiating.
