EASTON NEWS

It was a busy week in Easton on July 6-12 as community members, former residents/alumni and friends from greater Aroostook County converged on Easton for the summer festival as well as the all-school class reunion and to continue celebrating Easton’s 150th birthday (sesquicentennial) year.

The week started off with a girls and boys high school basketball tournament at the high school. Washburn boys and Fort Fairfield girls were victorious with Easton’s team finishing as runners-up in both divisions. Other schools participating included Central Aroostook and Hodgdon boys and Washburn and Central Aroostook girls.

Wednesday brought G-force Laser Tag to town and a cribbage tournament.  Congratulations to Paul Dudley, Clarence Rossignol and Kristina Lento for placing in the tournament.

Thursday was the Annual Kiwanis BBQ. The barbecue is an important fundraiser,  one of the club’s largest, but it is also important to our  community as an opportunity to get together and see our neighbors. As a service organization this is an opportunity for the club to service twice; to gather the community together then to use the funds to help those in need in. Thank you for supporting the local Kiwanis club and their service projects. Your support helps support our students of the month award as well as other youth needs.

The evening’s entertainment was a fabulous presentation in the cemeteries (Estes Park, Pine Tree, Ladner, Mt. Shiloh) around Easton. History came to life as actors depicting the early settlers presented brief presentations on each family in period dress.   The “actors” and the settlers/families they covered included  Nick Clark and Nichole Dudley — Turner Family; Jake Flewelling — Flewelling Family; Zach Lamoreau — Dodge Family; Kelsey Frank — Ladner Family; Ashley Hersey — Mahaney Family, Abby Thompson and Katelyn White — Kneeland Family; Kristen and Ryan West — Adams Family; Hannah Ferris and Alex Allen — Cumming Family; Connor Burtt — Nicholson Family; Madison Leach — Hoyt Family; and Riley Mazerolle and Macey Currier — Fuller Family. Special thanks to Elaine White and Darren West for implementing this program.

Friday was the All-School Reunion which takes place every five years. More details on these events are coming soon.

Saturday was jam packed with a 5K race, fabulous parade, Veteran’s Ceremony, a community Gospel Concert featuring Joyful Noise, Kelly O’Mara and Free Indeed!, a pictorial history of Easton and a sold out spaghetti supper. The evening’s entertainment came straight from Disney World. Bob Jackson, otherwise known as Yehaa Bob, entertained the crowd for nearly two hours. It was an amazing, interactive show for young and old. The night entertainment continue with Heath Bartley live and a breath-taking fireworks show set to music.

Other events included a planetarium show at Francis Malcolm Science Center, a community breakfast honoring Veterans at the United Baptist Church, a flower show, open house at the Little School on Station Road, a golf tournament at the Par 3 on West Ridge Road and a Hymn Sing at the Friends Church.

Road race winners were Chris Rines, overall champ at 20:32; 13-19 girls, Alex Allen; 13-19 boys, Trevor Levesque; 20-29 female, Stevi McCrum; 20-29 male, Rines; 30-39 female, Tonya Alexander; 40-49 female, Heidi Brewer; 40-49 male, Brian Harris; 50-and-over female, Heidi Kreppler; 50-and-over male, Rob Langner.
