Maine Red Claws basketball clinic
Dunkin’ Donuts and the Maine Red Claws are teaming up to provide kids 7-14 years of age a chance to learn the fundamentals of basketball. The clinic will be held on Monday, Aug. 3 at the Houlton Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a free clinic. No registration is required. Just be sure to wear sneakers, bring a water bottle, a lunch, drink and snacks for the day. Come meet some of the Maine Red Claws basketball players and work on your basketball skills at the same time.
The tradition continues …Annual peanut parade, carnival and coronation!
The “Just for Kids” summer playground children will be holding their annual Peanut Parade, Carnival and Coronation. The parade is set for Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. through downtown Houlton. This children’s parade will feature floats, walkers, bikers and more.
The Peanut Carnival will be held on Thursday, Aug. 6 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Pleasant Street tennis courts. More than 40 games will be set up for families to play. Cost for a bag of peanuts will be $1.50 or three for $4. In case of rain, the carnival will move into the recreational center.
The coronation is the highlight of the evening with the crowning of the 2015 Peanut King and Queen at 8 p.m. in the Houlton rec center gym. King Garrett Fitzpatrick and Queen Kaitlyn Kenney will do the honors.
This year’s king and queen candidates are: 5-6 year olds, Presley Goodwin and Carter Carmichael; 7-8 year olds, Mary Drew Metherell and Bryce Hubert; 9-10 year olds, Alexis Campbell and Parker Grant and 11-13 year olds, Jenna Fitzpatrick and Damien Sullivan.
