Patten Pioneer Days offers fun, entertainment for all

Saturday, Aug. 1
    11 a.m. — Co-ed softball tourney at the ball field. $20 per team. Each team must include at least three females. Sign up at 10:30 a.m.
Sunday, Aug. 2
    12 p.m. — Horseshoe Tourney at Shin Pond Pub. Bring a partner and shoes, $10/person. Winning team will get 50 percent of the profit. Players please be there no later than 11:45 a.m. Rain or shine.

Monday, Aug. 3
    9 a.m.-12 p.m. — Patten Pentocostal VBS. Monday-Friday, ages 3-14.
    10 a.m.-3 p.m. — Red Cross blood drive, Methodist Church. Sponsored by Katahdin Valley Health Center.
    1 p.m. — Bird show at Patten Rec. Come and meet Edgar and Casey. Make a craft, bring your camera. Sponsored by Art and Sandy Mann.
    2:30 p.m. — Coloring contest and ice cream sundaes at Patten Town Office. Ages up to 12. Rain location: Patten Rec.
    5:30 p.m./6:30 p.m. — Frog jumping contest at ball field. Ages 5 and under and 6-7 at 5:30, ages 8-9 and 10-2 at 6:30. Must bring your own frog. Rain or shine. Sponsored by Craig’s Clam Shop.
    6 p.m. — Bingo at Patten Rec. Must be at least 16 years old to play. Doors open at 5 p.m. Concessions available.
Tuesday, Aug. 4
    1 p.m. — Meet Monty Moose and craft at Eastmill Federal Credit Union. Rain location: Patten Rec. Sponsored by EMFCU.
    2 p.m. — Outdoor scavenger hunt at ball field. Ages 10 and up. Grab a partner or two to search clues for hidden letters that create  word or phrase. All teams will consist of two or three members and all clues are contained to the ball field/park area. The first two teams to solve the mystery phrase will get a prize.
    6 p.m. — Patten’s Pioneer Days Pageant at Patten Rec. Ages 4-14. Sponsored by Patten Drug & Floral and Christie Crouse.
Wednesday, Aug. 5
    9 a.m. — Heart Saver CPR at Patten Fire House. Class is free unless you want to purchase the book for $12. Class size is limited, sign up by July 31. Sponsored by Patten Ambulance Service.
    12:15 p.m. — Teddy bear picnic at park. Ages 7 and under. Bring a picnic lunch and a teddy bear. Take pictures with a clown. Bring a camera. Sponsored by Debbie’s Deli & Pizza.
    1 p.m. — Outdoor concert at Mt. Heights. Music by the very talented “Dennis McGuire’s One Man Band.” Refreshments provided. Blanket or lawn chairs welcome. Sponsored by Mt. Heights.
    3 p.m. — Watermelon eating contest at park. Ages 4-16. Sponsored by Ellis Family Market.
    5-7 p.m. — Concert in the park, “The John Wayne Hall Country Show.” Classic country and original music. Admission is free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Concessions will be sold.
Thursday, Aug. 6
    9 a..m-4 p.m. — Book sale at Veterans Memorial Library.
    12:30 and 2 p.m. — Field day at ball field, at 12:30 for ages 7 and under at 2:30 for ages 8-14. Be prepared to get wet.
    4:30-6:30 p.m. — Spaghetti supper at Methodist Church. Sponsored by United Methodist Men.
    5-8 p.m. — Evening at the museum at Patten Lumbermen’s Museum. Paul Marshall memoir “Maine Boy Goes to War & the Story of Mizpah.”
    7 p.m. — Worship concert at Methodist Church. “Lift my voice like a trumpet” by Chuck Loucka and the Praise Team. Immediately following will be a community prayer chain on Main Street.
    8:30 p.m. — Light parade at park. Decorate yourself, bike, scooter, wagon, etc., with anything that glows or lights up. Anything goes. Golden Tickets will be awarded for participation.
    9 p.m. — Family movie night at park. “Night at the Museum.” Bring chairs or blankets. Concessions will be sold.
Friday, Aug. 7
    9 a.m.-12 p.m. — Book sale at Veterans Memorial Library.
    11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — Progressive lunch while 175 containers last. Start at Craig’s Clam Shop for container and map. Partipating businesses: Craig’s Clam Shop, Eastmill FCU, Debbie’s Deli & Pizza, Katahdin Trust Co., Ellis Family Market, United Methodist Church, Magic Wand Car Wash, Hangar Pizza, Richardson’s Hardware, Daisy Boutique, Red Moose Trading Post and F.A. Peabody Col. Visit all locations to enter a raffle.
    1:30-3 p.m. — Foul shooting contest at Patten Drug Co. Grades 2-6. Sponsored by Patten Drug.
    2-4 p.m. — A look at the early history of Patten at Patten Historical Society. See surveyors arriving in the early 1800s. Meet one of the early families, the Blakes. Cookies and lemonade will be served. Sponsored by Patten Women’s Club.
    4-7 p.m. — Pioneer BBQ at Shin Pond Village. Sponsored by Class of 2016 Project Graduation.
    5-7 p.m. — Silent auction at Shin Pond Village. Sponsored by Mt. Chase Fire Department.
    6 p.m. — VBS closing ceremony at Patten Pentecostal Church.
    9 p.m. — Fireworks at Shin Pond Village. Sponsored by Mt. Chase Fire Department.
    9 p.m.-1 a.m. — Dance at Shin Pond Pub. IDs required.
Saturday, Aug. 8
    10 a.m. — Main Street Parade. Line up on Mill Street at 9:30. Winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m. at the gazebo in the park.
    Pie sale at United Methodist Church. Whole pies for sale as well a slice of pie a la mode. Come enjoy a slice of pie with coffee or tea and bring one home to share. Sponsored by United Methodist Women.
    Playground Committee Hot Dog Stand at park. Hot dogs, chili dogs, sausages with peppers and onions, coffee and cold drinks will be sold. All proceeds benefit Patten Playground.
    10 a.m. — Flea market/craft fair at park. Set up starting at 7:30 a.m. $15 per space. Must bring your own table. Call 528-2215.
    11 a.m. — Cow patty bingo at Richardson’s Hardware. $5 per plot. Tickets can be purchased at Richardson’s during the week.
    11 a.m. — Doughboys and nachos for sale at park. All proceeds go to Class of 2016 Project Graduation.
    11 a.m.-4 p.m. — Bean hole bean dinner at Patten Lumbermen’s Museum. For more information, visit www.lumbermensmuseum.org.
    11 a.m.-2 p.m. — Children’s carnival at ball field. 50 cents per game or $10 for an unlimited bracelet. Lots of carnival games, glitter tattoos, cotton candy, popcorn and much more. Many chances to win prizes and Golden Tickets. Pony rides from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at $1/ride. Helpers: KES 5th-grade Boston trip.
    11 a.m.-1 p.m. — Tim the Tuneman at park. Children of all ages can see Tim at the purple van for interactive games and dancing.
    12 p.m. — Volleyball tourney at volleyball court in park. $20 per team, each team must include at least one female.
    2 p.m. — Foul shooting and 3-on-3 at basketball court for grades 3-12.
    3:30 p.m. — First annual Patten Pioneer Days Pinewood Derby at park. Come and support your favorite local business as they race to the finish line. Rain location: Patten Rec. Sponsored by Cub Scout Pack 205.
    4-6 p.m. — Mason’s steak dinner at KVHC lot, sponsored by Katahdin Lodge 98.
    4:30 p.m. — Winners announced at gazebo in park. Golden ticket bike giveaway, coloring contest, 50/50 raffle and Main Street Parade.
    5 p.m. — Home run derby at ball field.
    9 p.m.-1 a.m. — Adult dance at Patten Rec. $5 cover charge. BYOB. IDs required.
Sunday, Aug. 9
    9 a.m. — Community church service at park.
    10 a.m. — Patten ATV Club ride. Starts at Hangar Pizza. Ride to Shin Pond. Bring a bag lunch or purchase lunch at local businesses.
