SHERMAN, Maine — The driver of a 1998 Chevrelot S-10 pickup truck lost control of his vehicle Saturday, slamming into the Washburn Memorial Church on the Golden Ridge Road.

According to Maine State Police Sgt. Chad Fuller, Robert Catlin, 47, of Stacyville was traveling east on Main Street when he failed to turn at a fork in the road at the junction of Golden Ridge and Woodbridge Corner roads. Catlin missed a piece of construction equipment in the church parking lot and struck the building, causing significant front-end damage to his vehicle.
Speed was a contributing factor in the crash, police said.
Catlin was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation. The Patten and Sherman fire departments assisted on the scene.
