McCarthy, Vernon M., 86, July 9, 2015. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at the Crystal Cemetery, followed by a luncheon and time of fellowship at the Whittier Congregational Church, Island Falls. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home.
CRYSTAL – Vernon M. McCarthy, 86, passed away on July 9, 2015, at a local hospital after an extended period of declining health. He was born on April 17, 1929, in California Settlement, NB, Canada, the son of Isaac and Rebecca (Doody) McCarthy.
Vern made his living as a mechanic, welder, and logger. He loved reminiscing about growing up on Happy Corner Road, sharing old stories about driving teams of horses, watching old Westerns and Animal Planet, and fishing for brook trout.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Pray) McCarthy; his two daughters, Tammy McCarthy of Crystal and Bangor and Brenda Coffin of Philadelphia; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Hubert McCarthy of Stacyville, and his sister, Barbara Porter of Patten; as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters; an infant daughter; and a granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015, at the Crystal Cemetery with Pastor John Stevens, lay pastor of Whittier Congregational Church, officiating. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow the service at Whittier Congregational Church in Island Falls.
