Northern Maine Community College awards classes to local 4-H winners

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Houlton Fair has always had a strong farming tradition, which is evident in the number of 4-H participants who compete in different categories year after year.

This year, and in the years to follow, Northern Maine Community College is rewarding the hard work and determination of high school 4-H students by awarding the winners of each 4-H show with a tuition certificate for a 3-credit class. These classes have no expiration date and the hope is that these young people can earn multiple tuition-free classes throughout their 4-H career, helping to make an NMCC education even more affordable.
The goal of the 4-H program fits nicely with the mission of NMCC: 4-H participants are actively engaged in hands-on education, leadership, and community service and two to three times more likely to be involved in technical and science-related activities.
The winners of this year’s high school level 4-H shows are: Darcie Campbell-McCarthy, Beef Grand Champion; Emily Williams, Dairy Grand Champion; Madison Bagley, Equestrian Grand Champion; Megan McLaughlin, Senior English Grand Champion & Senior Western Grand Champion; and Courtney MacDonald, Alpaca Grand Champion.
NMCC congratulates all 4-H participants and also will be awarding a tuition-free class to each high school 4-H winner during the Northern Maine Fair held in Presque Isle.
