HOULTON, Maine — All four employee groups in RSU 29 are now under contract. On Monday evening, the RSU 29 board approved a three-year contract for its bus drivers and custodians in the district.
According to Superintendent Ellen Schneider, highlights of the new contract include all bus drivers and custodians will receive a 30-cent per hour wage increase for each of the three years of the contract’s duration.
Other changes include improved wording regarding call outs on snow days, and that school year employees who have 20 continuous years of service will be paid up to 15 days of unused sick days, at a rate up to $100 per day.
Previously only year round employees were eligible for this benefit, Schneider said.
Approving this contract brings an end to negations between the district and staff for at least the next year. Cafeteria workers are under contract until June 30, 2016, while the educators’ contract expires June 30, 2017. Education technicians and secretaries contracts were approved at last month’s board meeting.
In other agenda items Monday, the board learned that Michelle Sullivan (English teacher) and Carmen Kimball (technology) resigned from their positions, while Marion Gartley was hired as resource room instructor.
The next regular meeting of the RSU 29 board is Monday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m.
