CARIBOU, Maine — Kyle Corrigan, who coached the JV boys’ soccer team at Caribou High School last year, has been named the school’s boys varsity coach for the 2015 season.
Corrigan replaces Scott Hunter, who had to step down due to health reasons. Hunter suffered a stroke this past spring and is still recovering. Hunter has been the team’s coach for four years and according to CHS Athletic Director David Wakana will reassume the position, if his health allows, in 2016.
Corrigan is a 2008 graduate of Caribou High School and was a soccer standout, having been named to the All-New England Team his senior season. He was the team MVP, established a school scoring record and went on to play both soccer and basketball at UM-Presque Isle, where he graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is an assistant accountant at Maine Mutual Group in Presque Isle.
Wakana said he felt “very fortunate” to have someone with Corrigan’s credentials ready to step in during Hunter’s absence.
Hunter said he helped out during tryouts last week and plans to continue as a volunteer assistant, as much as his health lets him, under Corrigan this fall.
“Kyle has been very good with keeping me a part of everything,” Hunter said.
The Vikings, coming off a 2-10-2 record during the 2014 season, wrapped up tryouts Friday and continue to practice as they get ready for their regular season opener at home against Fort Kent Aug. 25.
