MARS HILL, Maine — An incident last Tuesday night resulted in a Mars Hill man being arrested on several charges after leading a Maine State Police trooper on a chase from Bridgewater.
According to State Police Lt. Brian L. Harris, Trooper Eric Sucy responded to a report of an assault in Bridgewater and before his arrival, the suspect, Francis Murray, 43, of Mars Hill left the residence in a car. Moments later, Sucy met Murray in the vehicle and attempted to stop him to speak to him about the assault. Murray refused to stop, leading Sucy on a several-mile chase from Bridgewater to Mars Hill on Rt. 1 with speeds reaching 80 mph.
As Murray reached Mars Hill, the chase was ended with troopers using a tire deflating device and vehicle immobilization to disable Murray’s vehicle. Murray was then arrested after a brief struggle.
The investigation is ongoing with Murray facing several charges including refusing to stop, operating under the influence, operating while license revoked and also assault and violation of a protection order.
Sucy was assisted by Trooper Lilley and U.S. Border Patrol agents. Murray is being held at the Aroostook County Jail pending court action, police reported.
