Pregnancy Care Center marks 30 years, receives Knights donation

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Pregnancy Care Center this year is marking its 30th anniversary and credits the giving of local individuals and groups with its longevity.

The Fort Fairfield Knights of Columbus is among the latest to provide funding to the center with its recent donation of $901, raised through a barbecue fundraiser.

According to Executive Director Christie Corey, the PCC is a faith-based, nondenominational organization receiving no government funding.  It relies on annual fundraisers including a baby bottle drive in January, a walk in May and a banquet in October, along with contributions.

“This year we are celebrating 30 years of serving pregnancy-related needs in Aroostook County,” said Corey. “We recognize this is made possible because of the giving of churches, individuals, businesses and groups like the Knights of Columbus.”

“Individuals give throughout the calendar year to carry us through, enabling us to continue providing free services to our clients such as pregnancy tests, infants clothing, diapers and wipes, toiletry items, a program where moms can earn mommy money to purchase baby furniture, parenting classes and counseling for women who have had an abortion,” Corey explained.

All the center’s services are confidential.

Donations are accepted at PCC, P.O. Box 1553, Presque Isle, or through the United Way of Aroostook by designating PCC. For more information, or to schedule a presentation, call 764-0022 or 554-8396.
