CARIBOU, Maine — The roster of talent that will appear at the Sept. 19 Celebration of Freedom, a fundraising event to benefit local veterans, is growing and tickets are now available.
The variety show will be held at the Caribou Performing Arts Center and is being sponsored by the Meo Bosse Detachment 1414 Marine Corps League, based in Caribou.
Craig Fay, Commandant for the detachment, said that he has been very pleased with the response of the local talent.
“I have been overwhelmed with the positive response that we have received,” said Fay, who served as a Marine in Vietnam. “We have singing, dancing, music — this promises to be great family entertainment and a great tribute to our veterans.”
Funds raised by the event will benefit local veterans, including those who are homeless, indigent or need financial support.
“We know a lot of our veterans are struggling,” said Fay. “We want to create a fund so that when a veteran is truly in need we can be there for them. We hope to make this show an annual event and keep the effort going over time.”
Highlighting the ‘Celebration of Freedom’ will be Northern Star winner Emily Marin and vocalist Stephanie Plourde. The show will also feature a barbershop quartet and dancing numbers from Moondance Studio. A gospel group from Mars Hill, the Kinney Family Singers, will perform, along with a number of other local artists. Thomas Lajoie of Van Buren, regional winner of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy Essay Contest, will read his essay.
Kris Doody, RN and Cary Medical Center CEO, will emcee the Celebration of Freedom and noted that the event is part of a yearlong commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
“We have been highlighting this anniversary event throughout the year as a tribute to those who served in Vietnam and in honoring veterans of all wars,” said Doody. “We hope that many veterans and their families will join us for the Celebration of Freedom. We are so grateful to our veterans for their service.”
Tickets to the Sept. 19 event are now available and are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Children under 12 are free.
