The annual parade was Saturday morning, which drew a very large crowd to Washburn. The theme for this year was celebrating 50 years of Washburn Boy Scout Troop 177. The Washburn Troop was started in 1965 by Hermon Never who also served as Scoutmaster until 1977 when the post was taken up Larry Harrison, who is still Scoutmaster today.

The Washburn Boy Scouts have been a very strong and positive influence in the Town of Washburn. Since 1977, they have had 36 scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout, they attended the 1983 World Scout Jamboree in Calgary, Alberta and seven National Jamborees.

The winners for this year’s parade for each category are as follows: Best Entry Overall – Washburn Class of 1965, Best Used Theme – Boy Scout Troop 177, Most Original – Little Miss Washburn, Madelyn Johnston, Best Classic Vehicle – Elmer Gunerson’s 1966 Thunderbird, and Best Musical Vehicle – Pines Health Center.

The parade was followed by a full day of great events including the annual Fire Department barbecue, a kids coloring contest, bouncy house and carnival, arts and crafts, music, food and more. Saturday night concluded with an amazing fireworks display that went off beautifully to a large crowd that gathered that warm evening on the hill behind the school.

Sunday’s events concluded with the gospel concert in the afternoon at the Washburn High School gymnasium.  Washburn would like to thank everyone who came out to share in our festivities and hope to see you again next year.
