Jeffery Andrew “Duff” Monteith

 

CARIBOU – Jeffery Andrew “Duff” Monteith, 64, died peacefully in Caribou on August 13, 2015, after a sudden and brief battle with cancer. Jeff was born in Caribou on November 30, 1950, the son of Bill and Elizabeth (Currier) Monteith.

He graduated from Caribou High School in 1970. He served as an Army specialist in Vietnam. He married Doreen Cade in 1978. After moving to Texas, Jeff began working for J.B. Sandlin Homes as a builder. Over 37 years, the couple welcomed four children into their home and countless other “adopted kids”. He brought his family home to Caribou in 1996. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, patient, and loving father who always had something wise to say. Jeff was accomplished at construction and building and often helped others. He was a generous and dedicated man who loved Maine and was passionate about fishing and the outdoors.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Doreen; children, Zachery, Lacy, Benjamin and Kelli; grandchildren, Andrew and Ellie; soon-to-be-born grandson, Sawyer Jeffery Monteith, siblings, Waydette Poitras, Loyce Warner, Roberta Pagano, and Nelson Monteith; lifelong friends, Joe McDougal and Dave Peterson. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth Monteith of Caribou.

Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2015, at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Lombard Road, Caribou. All who loved and were loved by Jeff are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. The family will hold a private reception following the service.
