Balloon fest is on
The Mapleton Lions Club will again be the host sponsor for the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest on Aug. 27-30, 2015. Fourteen balloons will be participating in this year’s fest.
According to Lion Terry Sandusky, “As always, the Mapleton Lions Club is pleased to be part of the balloon fest because it is a no-charge event for the Central Aroostook community.”
There are six scheduled balloon launches starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, and then 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with 5:30 evening flights on Friday and Saturday. There will also be tethered balloon rides both Friday and Saturday for $15 per person starting at 5 p.m. Tickets go on sale at 4 p.m. and are limited to 150 riders per evening.
Individuals interested in a full balloon ride should contact the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce for cost and availability. For more information regarding the COMBF, go online at www.crownofmaineballoonfest.org.
This year the Mapleton Lions Club will again be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries and their “world famous” Italian sausage sandwiches and fried dough. Lions Club food sales will be Friday, Aug. 28, from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 12-7 p.m.
Come Saturday for lunch and supper and enjoy the antique tractor pulls, the youth day activities and the evening balloon launch. The club will be cooking and serving all afternoon during the antique tractor pulls at the fairgrounds and during the evening balloon launch.
Stay and enjoy the music of “Sound Friendship” on Friday evening and “No Pressure” on Saturday evening. Both groups consist of talented local musicians.
Pilot/crew breakfast
The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club invites the public to breakfast and to meet the balloon pilots and crews. The breakfast will be served on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 7-10 a.m. at the club house. All are welcome to enjoy a delicious breakfast of pancakes, bacon, sausage, baked beans, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. The price per person will be $7. Proceeds will help support the club’s work in maintaining 42 miles of snowmobile trails this coming winter.
