Sponsors sought to help violence awareness effort

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Hope and Justice Project, a local resource center for anyone affected by abuse and violence, is asking individuals, businesses and groups to consider sponsoring their Domestic Violence Awareness Month efforts for $100 by Sept. 1.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Hope and Justice Project is gearing up for a month full of educational events.

“We are seeking sponsors, because it is important to us that our awareness events continue to be free to the public,” said Casey Faulkingham, Hope and Justice Project’s prevention and training coordinator.  “We work with well over 1,000 people every year in Aroostook County and we can’t help but wonder how many other people are out there who aren’t yet aware of our services.”
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Criminal Justice Club has been confirmed as a 2015 sponsor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. “We are sponsoring Hope and Justice Project’s events because raising awareness and working to end domestic violence aids in the work of law enforcement and other criminal justice professionals.  We recognize how important it is to have partners with advocacy groups like Hope and Justice Project,” says the group’s advisor, Lisa Leduc.
UMPI’s Criminal Justice Club will join businesses such as Daigle & Houghton and TD Bank in Fort Kent, Irish Setter Pub in Presque Isle, and Shiretown Inn & Suites and McDonald’s in Houlton as 2015 sponsors.
Sponsorship checks can be made out and sent to: Hope and Justice Project, PO Box 148, Presque Isle, ME 04769. For: DVAM.
Some of the Domestic Violence Awareness Events coming up include: Chalk It Up, Fort Kent! on Sept. 18, Talk It Up, Houlton! on Oct. 5 and Walk It Up, Presque Isle! on Oct. 9.
