AMITY – Joan Lena (Ewings) (Small) Simpson, 83, died August 5, 2015. She was born January 7, 1932, in Merrill, ME, the daughter of Charles R. Sr. and Vada (Lewin) Ewings.
She was a graduate of Oakfield High School. Joan received her CNA and took great joy in taking care of others throughout her life and was well known for her amazing cooking skills, most notably her cherry donuts! She loved her grandbabies especially.
Joan is survived by her children, Lola (Small) and Robert Wright of N. Berwick, Richard (Dick) and Kimberly Small of Monticello; grandchildren, Andrew, Heath, Angel, Jen, Ben, Chris, Becky and Carole; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gilbert and Jeanette of Montana, Garth and Anita of Washington; sisters, Ada Barnes of E. Millinocket, Charity and Ken Hayes of Oregon and Darlene Dillon of Texas; sister-in-law, Druscilla Ewings of Merrill as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her parents; husbands, Richard Small, Sr. and Earl Simpson; a son, Rollie Small; brothers, Frank, Merle, Lester, Fred, and Charles Jr.; and sisters, Alice, Elinor, Gail and Jeanne. The family would like to thank the staff of Madigan Estates for taking exceptional care of their Mom.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m., August 11, 2015, at Bowers Funeral Home in Houlton with Pastor Jason Rooney officiating.
