The Houlton Community Golf Course club championship was held this past weekend with some great golf played. Jerry York shot 3 under par 69 on Saturday, then followed up with a stellar round on Sunday to win the Men’s’ Championship.

Misty Marino overcame a rough first day with a nice comeback on Sunday to win the Ladies Championship.  And Ryan Dee shot 76 and 80 to win the Junior Championship.
Bill Dwyer won the Mens “B” Division and Vaughn Putnam had two stellar days of golf to win the “C” Division.  In the Ladies “B” Division Harriet Gray won the championship. Congratulations to all the winners and a big “thank you” to all who played and supported the club.
Playoffs begin in the Men’s’ Twilight League this week with the top 16 teams qualifying for the single elimination tournament. The Tony Marino/Doug Avery team holds the top ranking with The Jerry York/Bob Gray and Bill Dwyer/Ted Pettingell teams ready to battle them. Teams will be ranked from 1 to 16 according to points (won-lost and head-to-head competition.)  The brackets and schedule are posted on the bulletin board in the clubhouse. There also will be a consolation tournament for those teams who do not qualify for the Championship.
On Saturday and Sunday, Sept 5 and 6 is the Annual Babe Caron Member Guest Tournament Weekend. This year’s will be run like last year. There will be no auction, but “Win-Place-Show ParaMutual” tickets will be on sale for any and all.
On Friday evening there will be a ParaMutual purchase party with happy hour drinks and food, as well as long drive and pitching contests. The party is open to the public and during the evening anyone can purchase tickets for the team or teams of their choice. Tickets are priced from $1 and up.
For non-members who are interested in playing in this popular event, call the clubhouse for details as there are members looking for guests. For members, remember you and your guest must have an authorized handicap. Either way everyone is invited to Friday’s party, so bring a friend and come on out for a good time.
Finally, for all golfers interested in a membership for next year (2016),  pay your membership fee by Sept. 1 of this year ($325 for a new member) and you can play the rest of this year as well. Regular members pay this year’s fee and be guaranteed no increase for next year.
