PI woman charged in accident
that caused power outage
MAPLETON, Maine — A Presque Isle woman driving with a suspended license was summoned on multiple counts following a two-vehicle accident Tuesday night that knocked out power in Mapleton, according to Sgt. Josh Haines of the Maine State Police.
Susan Labelle, 37, of Presque Isle was traveling west in a 1996 GMC Yukon on State Road in Mapleton around 6:30 p.m.
At the same time, a 2007 Saturn sport utility vehicle driven by Sharon Jensen, 71, of West Palm Beach, Florida, who had been traveling east on State Road, was attempting to turn left into a private driveway. Jensen turned into the westbound lane in front of Labelle’s GMC, resulting in the collision, Haines said Wednesday morning.
The impact caused Labelle’s vehicle to leave the roadway and hit a utility pole guide wire, knocking out power in the area.
Labelle was not injured in the accident, but a 10-year-old boy in her vehicle suffered minor head wounds that did not require transport to the hospital. A 4-year-old girl who also was in the vehicle but not in a child’s safety seat, was not injured, according to Haines.
Labelle was issued a criminal summons for operating after suspension and two traffic summonses for the 10-year-old riding in the front seat and for the 4-year-old not being in a child’s safety seat.
Jensen received minor injuries but was not not transported from the scene, Haines said.
Both vehicles were totaled.
