Recreation center hours

     Hours at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. The facility is closed Saturdays and Sundays.

Introduction to Art

     The center is offering an Introduction to Art class Tuesdays from 9:30-11 a.m. through Dec. 22. All ages and skill levels are welcome. This class will cover basic drawing skills, with the potential of covering watercolors, acrylics and other mediums, depending on the desires of those in attendance.

     Pre-registration is required. The fee is $5.

Take It Outside fall series

      Trips planned through mid-September are: Sept. 3, County Bluegrass Festival; Sept. 5, MIZPAH in Grand Isle; Sept. 6, Circle B Farms; Sept. 8, Porter Experimental Seed Farm and Irving Stud Mill; Sept. 11-13, Explore Trains, Churchill Dam Museum and Canoe Chase Rapids on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.

     Pre-registration is required for these trips. For more information, go to caribourec.org or pick up a brochure at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. Trips will continue through November.

CPR/AED and first aid training

     The Caribou Recreation and Parks Department will host a CPR/AED First Aid Training Course on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The fee is $35 per person. The one-day course will ready participants to be a first responder. The legal considerations of providing care will also be discussed. The deadline to register is Oct. 9 and the class is limited to the first 12 to sign up, so pre-registration is a must..

Babysitter training course

     The recreation department will offer an American Red Cross Babysitting Certification Course Oct. 7 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. It is open to youth ages 11-15 and the fee is $50. The purpose is to provide youth planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants develop leadership skills, learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave and learn about basic child care and first aid. Pre-registration is required.

ATV safety course

     The recreation department will host an ATV safety course Oct. 9 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The course is for those 10 years of age and older and the fee is $5. Youth ages 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The course covers ATV operation, laws, landowner relations, first aid and other related subjects. Bring a bag lunch. Pre-registration is required.
