Fundraising Walk for Suicide Prevention

There will be a fundraising walk in the town of Portage Lake on Monday September 7, 2015 to benefit The Aroostook Mental Health Center’s suicide prevention.

The event is being held in the memory of a beloved community member in tandem with the 2015 National Suicide Prevention Week, which is Sept. 7-11. The course is approximately 4 miles long and will begin and end in the parking lot of the Portage Lake Municipal Building. Registration begins at 9am. The registration fee is $10 (checks made payable to AMHC, with the memo of “suicide prevention”). The walk will commence at 10 a.m. Participating walkers are encouraged to raise additional funds and donations will also be accepted. Walkers are asked to wear the colors of purple and/or turquoise, which are the colors of suicide prevention awareness. For more information please contact Corrine Routhier or Taunja Jandreau at the Portage Lake Town Office 435-4361.

9-11 Memorial Dedication

The unveiling and memorial dedication of the town’s 9-11 Memorial will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, at the memorial site on Exchange Street (Route 227/State Road) in Ashland, next to the town library. While planning is still underway, a musical performance and guest speakers will be part of the dedication.
The Ashland Fire Department, Masonic Lodge and Town of Ashland invite all firefighters, first-responders and the general public to attend the event.
