Candidates sought for school, municipal posts

CARIBOU, Maine — There are vacancies within the Caribou City Council, the Jefferson Cary Memorial Hospital Fund, and the RSU 39 school board.

All vacancies are for a three-year term which starts at the beginning of next year. Both Cary Memorial Hospital Fund and RSU 39 board have one vacancy while the Caribou City Council has two.

“The responsibilities for these positions involve volunteer working for the good of the RSU and the city,” said Jayne Farrin, city clerk. “This is an annual election, so each year there are three openings. Those who are already involved with these organizations may take out nomination papers and run for election again.”

Anyone interested in applying for one of these positions have until 5 p.m. on September 18th to return their nominations.

“So far we’ve had a few individuals take out nominations, but the only one returned was for the Jefferson Cary Memorial Board,” said Farrin. “A few people took out papers for the City Council, but they have not been returned. All applicants need to obtain at least 25 signatures to be considered for nomination. They also need to be registered voters in the city of Caribou.

“For example, we had one applicant for the RSU 39 Board, as her child attended Caribou school, but unfortunately she did not qualify since she was a registered voter in another town,” said Farrin.

Interested parties can find a copy of the charter delineating the responsibilities of these positions online or they can get a copy if they stop by the Caribou Municipal Building to pick up nomination papers.
