115 Years Ago – August 29, 1900
A couple of thieves stole a macintosh and a lap robe from a wagon in the shed behind the Baptist church Sunday evening while the owner was attending service.
Wires must have gotten twisted when a young Caribou lady who wished to talk with a young man in another part of town thought she would use the “phone.” On hearing a masculine “Hello, there” on the other end, she entered at once into a very interesting conversation. The young man couldn’t get a chance to talk, but he proved a good listener, and after the young lady had finished, he guessed she must have wanted to talk with some other fellow as he “didn’t catch the drift”.
100 Years Ago – Sept. 1, 1915
Anti-tuberculosis association — A meeting of the Aroostook Anti-Tuberculosis Association took place in the Masonic Club rooms in Fort Fairfield, Saturday afternoon with Hon. T.H. Phair of Presque Isle, president, in the chair. The attendance was not very large, but easily made up in interest.
Automobile accident — An automobile containing two men, two women and four children, met with a bad accident Sunday. The driver coasted down the steep hill near the thoroughfare on the Fort Kent road. One child had its collar bone broken and the women were more or less bruised, but no serious result followed, miraculously.
75 Years Ago – August 28, 1940
New fingerling trout — Madawaska Lake’s waters received 10,000 healthy fingerling trout last Saturday as a result of the re-stocking campaign of the Caribou Fish and Game Club. Conditions at the lake were considered ideal for the growth and propagation of such fish and those in the past who have fished the waters have registered considerable pleasure.
New municipal airport – Caribou citizens met with the town council for one hour at the high school Monday to sponsor the development of the municipal airport. The council was further authorized to acquire the title for the needed additional property.
50 Years Ago – Sept. 1, 1965
Used by 62,539 — The Caribou Recreation department facilities were used by 62,539 persons during the nine weeks of summer programming this year, according to final attendance figures released this week by department officials. Highlighting the summer activities for the Caribou youngsters were trips to other communities to take part in friendly competitions.

25 Years Ago – August 26, 1990
Cable television — By 1991, Woodland residents will have the opportunity for cable television in their homes. The town selectmen are ready to issue proposal requests to two interested cable television companies: Paragon Cable of Caribou and United Video Cable Television of Madawaska.
Historical Society log project — The Caribou Historical Society will consider construction of a replica early log school building. This was one of the items on the program for the August meeting. The log school building was proposed to be about 12 x 20 feet long.
