VASSALBORO, ME – Chief Master Sergeant David Alton Parsons passed away at his home in Vassalboro, August 19, 2015. He was 76 years old. 
Chief Parsons is survived by his wife of 30 years, Evelyn (Williams); sons, David of Tabernacle, NJ, and Edward of Philadelphia, PA; step-children, Terry Bowker of Chicago, IL, Rebecca Czosnek of Auburn, ME, Diane Yeaton of West Gardiner, ME, Tina Morris of Ruckersville, VA, Lucinda Brown of Kittery, ME, and Barbetta Turner of Crouseville, ME. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 19 step-grandchildren.
Chief Parsons was born in 1939 to David Irving Parsons and Helen May (Anthony) in Gloucester, MA, He attended Gloucester Central School and graduated from Gloucester High School. In 1957, he enlisted in the United States Army. Chief Parsons served in the 10th Special Forces Group as a demolitionist, intelligence specialist and communications expert until 1960. In 1961, after, a brief return to civilian life, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He maintained communications equipment, early warning and control radar equipment and nuclear missile systems until he became a maintenance supervisor in 1968. He then served as squadron First Sergeant for several operational units. In 1980, he was stationed at Loring AFB, ME, and served as a senior enlisted advisor in the 42d Bombardment Wing until his retirement in 1984. Chief Parsons then undertook a second career as a computer science and programming instructor at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle. Upon his retirement from teaching, in 2003, Chief Parsons settled in Vassalboro. He enjoyed collecting and repairing antique cameras, bird-watching and fishing the waters of Maine. Chief Parsons was also an avid genealogist and especially proud to be a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was nearly never seen without his constant and devoted companion Rusty-his beloved Brittany spaniel.
