HOULTON – Lois (McCarthy) Fenlason, 76, of Houlton died peacefully August 30, 2015, in Bangor after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Lois was born in Houlton on May 5, 1939, the daughter of the late Clayton (Jeff) and Annie (Duffield) McCarthy.
A highly educated, intelligent woman, Lois used her MSW as a social worker for the state of Maine for many years. She later became a guidance counselor and worked at Winslow High School and Hodgdon High School. She was an accomplished golfer and longtime member of the Houlton Country Club. In 1996, she married Merle Fenlason and they spent 19 happy years together, summering at Drews Lake and wintering in Florida.
In addition to her husband, Lois is survived by brother, Gerald (Jerry) McCarthy of Houlton; sister, Marilyn and husband, Alvin Martin, of Benedicta; stepdaughters, Judy Buck and Sandy Cummings; four nieces, Heather, Alicia, Erika and Heidi; nephew, Scott; and many, many friends.
A graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Smyrna St., Houlton at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015. A service of Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton.
