Mike Cyr, owner of Mike’s Family Market in Limestone, has reopened the former Ouellette’s Variety in Caribou with a new name, First Choice Market and Deli.
“I’d like to say thank you to everyone who helped make this possible,” said Cyr, “especially to family, and to God, because all things are possible through Him.”
Cyr purchased the 342 Sweden St. property from KeyBank during the Keenan Auction on July 22nd and a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Aug. 20th with city officials praising the new business venture.
“We’ve easily put in about 100 hours a week remodeling the store and making sure that everything is ready. We went through the whole store and put in new counters, new lighting, and new ceiling tiles. We also redid the floors and added a new cash register system,” Cyr said.
The new owner’s main objective is to expand on the store and create more options for shoppers.
“We are open now and selling homemade donuts, fried chicken, breakfast sandwiches, pizza, sub sandwiches, Maine’s Best coffee, as well as the normal convenience items like beer, soda, cigarettes, groceries, chips, candy and snacks,” he said. “We also sell competitively priced gasoline.”
Cyr added that he is definitely excited to open the store.
“It will be a one-stop shop for everyone in town and those heading out of town. I think the people in the community will be happy. I’m hoping that the customers come back and support us because we didn’t like seeing it closed.
“I believe this store has great potential and a nice customer base. I grew up just down the road from Ouellette’s and I remember getting lunch there and walking by every day when I went to school. It brings back great memories!
“Stop by and give us a try! We are open to any suggestions to accommodate our customers,” Cyr said.
