Bowling meetings scheduled

     Northern Lanes will hold organizational meetings for its bowling leagues on the following dates.
    Tonight, 6:30 p.m., Men’s Monday and Wednesday leagues; Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, 6:30 p.m., Men’s Thursday Night League; and Sept. 13, 2015, 5 p.m., Sunday Night Mixed Doubles.
    The Junior League’s first week is Oct. 3 at 10 a.m.

Officiating class

    Basketball officiating school for new officials will be held Mondays and begins Sept. 28 at Presque Isle High School.
    The class will be held from 7-9 p.m. and the cost is $40. For more information on the class and the specific location, contact Harry Orser at 425-4451.

 UMPI men’s soccer drops first 3

    The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s soccer team lost to Unity, St. Thomas University and Maine Maritime Academy in action last week.
    Unity hosted the Owls last Tuesday and prevailed, 3-1. The goal scorer for UMPI was Derek Healy, assisted by Mohamud Abukar.
    The Owls lost a 1-0 decision at home Friday to Fredericton, New Brunswick-based St. Thomas. The lone goal came in the 20th minute of play.
    The score of the match against MMA was 4-0.
    The Owls will host UM-Farmington this afternoon at 4 p.m.

 Owl women take opener

     The women’s soccer team at UMPI gained a 2-1 victory over Unity last Tuesday to open its season. Janae Libby, a sophomore from Fort Fairfield, converted an assist by Sam Nadeau in the 48th minute to put the Owls on top. After Unity tied the match, UMPI scored the go-ahead goal as Mikaelah Tracy curled in a corner kick late in the contest.
