Chapman to wait on election
CHAPMAN, Maine — The Chapman selectboard is going to wait until the spring to elect a new fifth member after an unexpected death.
In March, Chapman voters will elect a replacement member on the selectboard for Tim Scott, who died unexpectedly at age 67 on August 11, 2015.
The four remaining selectmen considered seeking a special election for this fall, to hedge against the risk of the board splitting two-two on important issues. “Seven months is a long time to be down one,” said Patricia Sutherland.
But they ended up deciding to wait until the usual March election. The selectboard also decided to pay the rest of Scott’s stipend to his wife and making book donations to the local elementary school in his name.
A former Army servicemember, Scott spent much of his career working in forestry management for Seven Islands Land Co. and Orion Timberlands. A potluck luncheon honoring Scott will be at the Chapman Ridge Runners Clubhouse on Town Hall Road in West Chapman on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m.
