Broadway Revue Thursday

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s University Players theater club will present its first fall production: “A Broadway Revue,” Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 at 7 p.m. in Wieden Auditorium. Admission is free, though $5 suggested donations will be accepted.
“If you’re a Broadway fan or enjoy listening to Broadway songs, this is the perfect event for you,” University Players club president Darci Faye said. “We plan for this to be the first of many Broadway revues.”
The University Players were re-formed last year. Later this semester, the theater club plans to present an UMPI student-penned play performed by New York-based actors, “Infinitely Yours,” Oct. 9-10, and an off-Broadway hit comedy, “Beyond Therapy,” Nov. 7-8.

Book reading Sept. 22

UMPI will host a book reading and signing by UMPI Professor Richard Lee Zuras of his new book titled “The Honeymoon Corruption” on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center.
The novel follows the path young Althea and Guy traverse when they elope to a seaside resort town in New Jersey with two suitcases, a veil, and no plans, and learn that getting on their feet may demand more than they’re prepared to give.
There will be a reception with light refreshments and wine available through a cash bar. The book will be available for $10 and Zuras’ first novel, “The Bastard Year,” will be available for $5.
RSVP by Friday, Sept. 18, by calling 768-9452 or email umpi@maine.edu.

Make-A-Wish Walk

UMPI will host a Make-A-Wish Walk Thursday, Sept. 24 starting at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center, sponsored by the Dean of Students Office.
Check-in and on-site registration begins at 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. This event is free and open to the public. Prizes will be available.
Dean of Students Jim Stepp said his office has helped organize this event for five years because of a personal connection: “I am close friends with two families who have children who have been granted wishes by the Make-A-Wish Foundation,” Stepp said.
Last year, UMPI raised over $1,000 and had 60 participants.

Mwika Musicians here

UMPI’s Bachelor of Social Work Program will present the Mwika Musicians for a special reception and cultural exchange Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. in Wieden Auditorium.
This delegation of 12 student musicians, their chorale director, and the college principal from Stefano Moshi Memorial University College in Mwika, Tanzania, is visiting Maine for two weeks to share their culture and traditions, experience the culture and music here, and build upon the collaborations between UMPI and the Tanzanian college.
The reception will include demonstrations of traditional Afrikan music through stories, song and dance. The music is in Kiswahili and is arranged to reflect the group’s Christian faith. This event is free and open to the public and donations will be accepted at the door.
