4-H show winners reap tuition awards

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine The Northern Maine Fair has always been a fixture in Presque Isle in late summer. The presence of countless 4-H participants at their pavilion and who compete in different categories year after year, is one of the joys of going to the Fair.

This year, and in the years to follow, Northern Maine Community College is rewarding the hard work and determination of high school 4-H students by awarding the winners of each 4-H show with a tuition certificate for a 3-credit class. These classes have no expiration date and the hope is that these young people can earn multiple tuition-free classes throughout their 4-H career, helping to make an NMCC education even more affordable.
The goal of the 4-H program fits nicely with the mission of NMCC: 4-H participants are actively engaged in hands-on education, leadership, and community service and two to three times more likely to be involved in technical and science-related activities.
The winners of this year’s high school level 4-H shows are: Melissa Hotham of Fort Fairfield, Beef Grand Champion; Stephanie Winslow of Chapman, Dairy Goat Grand Champion; Courtney MacDonald of Oakfield, Dairy Grand Champion; Madison Bagley of Chapman, High Point Game Grand Champion; Megan Gagnon of Presque Isle, Senior English Grand Champion; Bagley and Anna Robinson of Presque Isle, tied for Senior Western Grand Champion; and MacDonald, Alpaca Grand Champion.
NMCC officials congratulate all 4-H participants and will continue to award a tuition-free class to each high school 4-H winner during the Houlton and Northern Maine fairs held in years to come.
