Island Falls Notes

Many of the summer residents have now departed to their homes in the South and among them have been Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Roach, who have returned to their home in Peterborough, Fla.

A week before they left they attended a benefit dinner in Oakfield held for Mrs. Barbara White, who is recovering from an illness in early June. Arnold, a former resident of Smyrna Mills, had a grand time reminiscing with many friends during this occasion and  also enjoyed the good, homemade food served to the many who attended.

Mrs. Phyllis (Donham) Jenkins and daughters, Christine, Joanne and Riva, have recently visited with me  for a short time. All are from New Hampshire, Warner, Wilton and Laconia, and Concord. We had a real good time visiting the Amish store in Smyrna, lunching at Brookside, and going through Oakfield to get a good look at the turbines there, which are now activated. They also stopped at Spring Break to see owner, Kristi, get some honey and other gifts to take home.

All have now returned to their homes in New Hampshire. It was a short visit but everyone declared it was a fun time.

I guess my hummingbirds have now taken off for their home in warmer climes, so I will dash out and take in the hummingbird feeder, wash it and store it away til next summer.

I put out a few sunflower seeds for my chickadees and swallows, as the mornings are now chilly and they sure appreciate it as they are now flitting in and out of the feeders at a good clip. I haven’t seen any squirrels yet, but imagine they will soon arrive when they know the seeds are in the feeders.

While finishing up mowing the back lawn, I found a large skunk hole that I filled up, so the skunks are still at it. I have filled many this summer.
