DANFORTH, Maine — East Grand students enrolled in the Outdoor Education class participated in a day of whitewater rafting on the Penobscot River Sept. 14.

East Grand teamed up and provided leadership with North Haven High School, an island located in the Midcoast. “The purpose of the trip was to increase skill building, gain confidence in moving water, learn to overcome fear, work as a team, provide student leadership opportunities and have fun,” said Dave Conley, one of the instructors. “The class is composed of eight students this year two of which are third-year students.”
In addition, there are three second-year students, while the remainder are newcomers to the class. “Returning students take on more leadership and mentoring roles as well as planning and helping to lead outings throughout the year,” Conley said.
