The Maine Primary Care Association, and Community Health Options, are helping newly (and not so newly) insured Mainers navigate their insurance to use it for their best health.
With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, more and more Americans are finding out for the first time what it means to have quality, affordable insurance. Over 70,000 Mainers have enrolled in new health insurance plans through the Federal Marketplace to help them stay healthy, but many are unsure of what this includes. The Maine Primary Care Association (MPCA), with the help of Community Health Options, is bridging this information gap to help Mainers stay healthier by being informed.
MPCA will be hosting Insurance Education sessions across the state during the months of September and October. As Open Enrollment for year number 3 rapidly approaches, you’ll learn how to use your insurance, understand co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance, and many other common features.
Outreach and Education Consultants from Community Health Options will be at these public sessions to walk audiences through these topics and explain them in ways all of us can understand. It’s not necessary to have Community Health Options as your health insurance carrier. These sessions are open to all, regardless of who your health insurance carrier might be. These sessions are not intended to answer specific questions about issues you may be experiencing with your health insurance. Resources and referral information will be available, however, to assist with issues.
Local sessions are being held at the following Pines Health Services offices:
Thursday, Oct. 8 from 2-4 p.m. at Pines Caribou Health Center, 74 Access Highway in Caribou;
Thursday, Oct. 8 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Pines Presque Isle Health Center, 66 Spruce Street, Presque Isle; and
Friday, Oct. 9 from 1:30-3 p.m. at Pines St. John Valley Health Center, 4 Main Street, Van Buren.
Please register by calling Patti Dorman at 498-1684 or email her at pdorman@pineshealth.org. Drop-ins are encouraged and will be welcomed.
