Flynn is medalist
at Caribou Invitational golf tourney
Caribou played host to an 18-hole invitational tournament Saturday which involved three other teams — Presque Isle, Houlton and Hodgdon.
Hunter Flynn of Presque Isle was the medalist with an 80. Jon Saucier had a 99 and Libby Boone a 103 for the Wildcats. Drew Marino had an 83 and Ryan Dee an 84 for the victorious Shires. Ben Tuttle’s 87 lead the Hawks.
The Shires came away with the team win with a stroke total of 358. Caribou was next with 385 and Presque Isle third with 395. Hodgdon did not have enough golfers participating to figure in the team results.
Leading the way for the host Vikings was Donovan Savage, who had an 85 on the day. Tyler Dombroski was next with 93.
The tournament served as preparation for the upcoming Penobscot Valley Conference, to be held at Lincoln’s JaTo Highlands Oct. 1. It used the same format as designating five starters and using scores of the top four to come up with the team title.
In a regular season match held Friday at Presque Isle Country Club, the Vikings won by a single stroke over the Wildcats, 193-194. Dombroski medaled with a 44. Savage had a 47 and Bailey Griffeth a 50 for the winners. Flynn shot a 45 for PI, followed by Saucier and Seth Roy with 49s.
Presque Isle also took on Houlton in a regular season dual match last week and lost, 159-203. Dee was the medalist with a 33, while Flynn shot a 37 to lead the way for the Wildcats.
In other golf action last week, Fort Fairfield beat Southern Aroostook and Hodgdon topped Central Aroostook. Shane Stackpole’s 48 led the Panthers in the latter match, played at Mars Hill Country Club.
