Houlton golfers split recent matches

HOULTON, Maine — One stroke can make all the difference in the game of golf. Such was the case last Wednesday at the Houlton Country Club as the Shires hosted Old Town.
Houlton (4-3) fell to Old Town 159-160 Wednesday at home and then squared off against the Coyotes the very next day at Old Town. Houlton had greater difficulty on the road losing to Old Town 156-167. The Shires did, however, beat Mattanawcook Academy 167-173.

At home Sept. 16, the Shires lost by just one stroke. Houlton’s Ryan Dee was once again medalist on the day with the lowest individual score. Dee shot a 35 for the day. Other Houlton results were: Parker Brewer, 39; Drew Marino, 39; and Wyatt Harvey, 47.
For Old Town (11-0), Cole Daniel shot a 39, while Chris Kauppiva, Wess Kauppiva and Lucas Shorette each shot 40.
On Thursday, Old Town had an easier time with Houlton, playing on their home course. Kauppila was medalist on the day with a low score of 36. Other Old Town results were: Daniel, 38; Alex Blackie, 41; and Kauppila, 41.
Individual results for Houlton were Parker Brewer, 39; Dee, 40; Nick Brewer, 43; and Harvey, 45.
For Mattanawcook Academy (6-2), individual results were: Logan Thompson, 40; Elliott Sibley, 42; Max Woodman, 45; and Jeff Garfield, 46.
At the Houlton Country Club Sept. 15, the Shires defeated Presque Isle 159-203. Houlton’s Ryan Dee was medalist on the day with a low score of 33. Other individual scores for Houlton were: Marino, 37; Parker Brewer, 44; Duncan McCormack, 45.
For Presque Isle (0-4), the individual scores were: Hunter Flynn, 37; Seth Roy, 53; Gannon Therrien, 55; and Craig Schiff, 58 for a total of 203.
