CARIBOU, Maine — Contestants ran through three miles of outdoor obstacles during last Saturday’s “Adventure Challenge,” held by the Caribou Recreation Department at the Park and Ride on Otter Street.
The three-mile course was packed full of challenging obstacles, including a culvert partially filled with water.
The Rec Department awarded free t-shirts to the first fifty contestants to sign up, and several prizes were offered by the event’s sponsors.
“The sponsors definitely deserve some acknowledgement,” said Neal Sleeper, Program Director at Caribou Parks and Recration. “The event, with their help, is making an economic impact on the town and bringing in people who wouldn’t usually stop by, which is something that local businesses can definitely benefit from.”
Sponsors for the event include Cary Medical Center, Bike, Board, and Ski, Oak Leaf Systems, Inc., Sleeper’s, The County Federal Credit Union, KeyBank, Katahdin Trust Company, Cindy’s Sub Shop, Ace Rent a Car, County Quick Print, Aroostook Limousines, and Jepson Financial Advisors.
“It’s been all hands on deck since we started setting up,” said Sleeper. “We’ve basically put this race together from a department of four people. I’ve been involved with it from a setup capacity. It’s been a very busy two weeks, and racers are going to face some interesting and technical obstacles every hundred feet throughout the course.”
