Gladys Marian (Dunlap) Brewer

    BREWER, Gladys M., 91, September 17, 2015.  A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 17 at 11 a.m. at the Foster Cemetery, Monticello.

    SHPT GladysBrewerOBPRESQUE ISLE – Gladys Marian (Dunlap) Brewer, 91, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2015. She was born in Glenwood Plantation on January 16, 1924, the daughter of Ervin and Velma (Butterfield) Dunlap. She attended schools in the Wytopitlock area.
    Gladys was a longtime member of the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church in Presque Isle where she had served on the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees. She was an active member of the Dorcus Circle and a previous member of the Susanna Wesley Circle. Until just recently, Gladys lived in the PI Housing complex for the elderly for over thirty years. She was moved to the Madigan House facility in Houlton three weeks ago, where she made friends quickly and settled in for her last journey on earth. While eating, she choked and ended up with full fledged aspirated pneumonia. She was moved to TAMC for seven days and then to Presque Isle Nursing and Rehab Center for her last three days.
    Gladys is survived by her niece and “daughter she never had”, Sally (Curtis) Lewin of Presque Isle; “special” niece, Karla (Ron) Seaman of Freeport; brother-in-law, Jay Brewer of Monticello; sisters-in-law, Iona (Brewer) Nadeau of Oakfield and Betty (Brewer) Williams of Houlton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was known as “Grammie Gladys” to Aaron and Jennifer Buzza and daughter, Maddie of Mapleton; Paul and Holly Smeltzer and children, and Becky (Smeltzer) Humphrey, her husband and children, all of southern Maine. She leaves behind special friends, Evelyn Holder, Beverly Nelder, Carolyn Kimball and Vivian Larson.
    Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Alvin ”Red” Brewer in 1984; her son, Donald Dunlap in 1988; her parents; her step-son, Max Brewer in 1977; her sister, Muriel (Dunlap) Gillis of Danforth in 2009; and brother-in-law, Frank Gillis of Danforth in 2008.
    A special thank you to all caregivers, nurses and doctors at Aroostook Home Health Services, Madigan House and PI Nursing and Rehab.
    Per Gladys’ request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 11 a.m. at the Foster Cemetery in Monticello. Refreshments will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, 79 Fleetwood St., Presque Isle, ME 04769.
