CARIBOU, Maine — State Representative Carol McElwee awarded legislative sentiments to various Caribou residents from her home last Sunday. Sen. Peter Edgecomb sponsored the awards along with Rep. McElwee.
The first sentiment was awarded to Kristi Herron, who has worked at Cary Medical Center for 18 years. The honor was for her 18 years of service as the Caribou Blood Drive coordinator for the American Red Cross Blood Services.
“Kristi was one of my students at Caribou,” said McElwee, “and I just loved her. She’s a hard working lady and very dedicated to her community.”
Sen. Edgecomb presented the next sentiment to Peter Miesburger for his time advocating for military veterans in Washington, D.C. Miesburger received the 2015 Real Hero Award from Pine Tree Chapter of the American Red Cross and has worked on the Veterans Legislative Board to the Maine Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also instrumental in the development and growth of the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou.
“I accept this on behalf of the the 37 guys from Aroostook County who didn’t make it home after sacrificing their lives in Vietnam,” said Miesburger.
Bill Flagg, director of community relations at Cary Medical Center, accepted a sentiment on behalf of Caribou hospital for being in business for over nine decades.
“The 90 years celebration was a really nice event,” said Flagg. “Now, we’re going for a one hundred.”
New Sweden Principal Laurie Spooner awarded Grady McKeough the 8th Grade Citizenship Award for his outstanding grades and participation in several extracurricular activities such as show choir, cross country running, cross country skiing, and the math team.
Caribou High School Valedictorian Morgan Outing received the 2015 Principals Award for outstanding academic achievement and citizenship from Sen. Edgecomb and Rep. McElwee awarded her a legislative sentiment for being valedictorian.
