The Aroostook Retired Educators Association (AREA) met Sept. 22, 2015 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.
Guest speaker, Pat Bennett, discussed trusts and wills. Musical selections were led by Dan Ladner. The business session with installation of officers concluded the meeting.
AREA is continuing to collect canned goods and nonperishable items to be distributed to local food pantries. The association is also participating in the annual “Day of Caring.” The project for this three year cycle is the “Bulging Backpack” project, which involves filling backpacks with school supplies and donating them to an area school.
Thanks to the outstanding support of the members, this year’s backpacks have been presented to Connor Elementary School in Connor and the Dawn F. Barnes Elementary School in Caswell, both representing central Aroostook. A school or schools in the northern section will be chosen next year.
All members are reminded to encourage retirees to join.
