HOULTON, Maine — On Saturday Oct. 17, 2015, walker and runners will have an opportunity to lace up their sneakers and toe the starting line for the second annual Strongtower Orphanage 5K Love Run/Walk.
“In 2011, God brought together Military Street Baptist Church in Houlton together with the First Methodist Church of Sedalia, Missouri and the Church of the Redeemer of Caracol, Haiti to form the 501(c)3 non-profit called Strongtower Orphanage,” said Taylor Quint, one of the race organizers. “Strongtower opened its doors in June of 2013 and currently houses 10 orphaned girls, however, there is room for 10 more and, Lord willing, they will come into care in November of this year. Please consider participating in this event and see the many faces of the girls as you run and/or walk a route through Houlton. This is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the girls of Strongtower Orphanage and spread the love from Houlton to Haiti.”
Race day bib pick-up and registration is 7:30-8:30 a.m. with the race starting at 9 a.m. There will be snacks and refreshments provided as well as awards for top male and female finisher and age divisions following the completion of the race.
