NEW LIMERICK – Sherwood D. Moody passed away on September 23, 2015, surrounded by his wife and family. Sherwood was born on June 12, 1937, in Houlton. He lived in New Limerick and Ormond Beach, Florida. He also resided on East Grand Lake in Orient in the summer months. He was predeceased by his parents, Doris Eagers Moody and George W. Moody. He graduated from Houlton High School in 1955. He then attended the University of Maine graduating in 1960. While at the University, he built lifelong friendships with his brothers at Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After graduating from the University, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in January 1963. He is survived and loved by his wife of fifty years, Nancy McIntosh Moody; his son, George McIntosh Moody and his wife, Jane Oliver Moody, of New Limerick; and his daughter, Ann C. Moody of Newburgh, Maine. Sherwood was blessed by his seven grandchildren, Margaret Moody of Bangor, Sarah Moody of Scarborough, Melissa Moody of Houlton, Autumn London of Bangor, Emma and Eli Wilson of Newburgh and Collin Moody of New Limerick. He worked most of his life in the trucking industry for O’Donnell’s Express and Sanborn’s Motor Express in sales. He retired from the trucking industry after 26 years, and then went into the real estate business. Sherwood belonged to the Houlton Lodge of Elks, the Masons AM & FM, and the American Legion. Sherwood also gave to the community as a member of the MSAD#70’s school board for many years where he diligently worked to promote public education to benefit the students. Sherwood will be remembered for his many interests, predominantly hunting, fishing, and his love for the outdoors. He particularly enjoyed spending time with family and friends at camp on East Grand Lake. He also loved gardening, and avidly grew both vegetables and flowers. Sherwood was a man of great strength and personal convictions. He had a genuine sense of self, and a wonderful sense of humor, especially for those who paid attention. His way of sharing himself openly had a lasting impression on those around him. He will also be remembered for his love of life, and loyalty to friends and family. Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday September 30, 2015, at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Houlton with the Rev. Ginny Urbanek officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at the church. Interment with military honors will take place at the New Limerick Cemetery following. The family invites relatives and friends for a time of remembrance and refreshment at Watson Hall following the interment.
