Three face charges in theft of gun
from government worker’s home
FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — A local man stands accused of breaking into a federal law enforcement employee’s home, stealing a gun and passing it along to others.
On Sept. 21, 2015, a High Street resident identified only as a federal law enforcement employee reported that a gun was missing from home. The next day Robert Nichols, 30, a Fort Fairfield resident with previous theft convictions, was arrested by Sgt. Shawn Newell and charged with burglary and theft.
On Friday, Newell arrested two others, 21-year-old Caribou resident Bashon Richardson-Pickett and 19-year-old Fort Fairfield resident Darcie Dow. Both have been charged with a felony for receiving stolen property, the firearm.
Newell did not disclose whether or not the residence was unlocked. But he urged residents to secure their homes and vehicles — despite the overwhelming low risk of crime in the area — noting that in July the town saw several motor vehicle burglaries around Elm Street and Brunswick Avenue.
“Just because we live in a sleepy community does not mean that crime is not going to happen,” Newell said.
