ASHLAND – Roger J. Marecaux, 69, died unexpectedly Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born December 16, 1945, in Boston, MA, a son of the late Claude and Marjorie (Ramsay) Marecaux.

He graduated from Bates College in 1967, where he met the love of his life. Following his graduation, Roger enlisted with the US Army during the Vietnam War. He received his honorable discharge as a Specialist in 1969 to accept a teaching position in Oxford, MA. Roger last worked as the Principal of the former Ashland Central School, retiring after 30 years in 2005. Previously, he worked as a teacher with Eagle Hill School, Hardwick, MA, and Warren Elementary School, Warren, MA. He had a love of fishing and took full advantage of the many waters around Ashland and surrounding areas to fill his limit.

Roger, with his wife, was also an avid gardener, growing a wide variety of vegetables for his table and many of his friends. Having played football during his high school and college days, he was a football enthusiast and spent many Sundays cheering for his team the New England Patriots.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy (Thompson) Marecaux of Ashland; three children, Amanda Marecaux Davis and her husband, Eric of Benton, AR, Emily Marecaux McKenzie and her husband, Jeff of Pine Bluff, AR, and Roger Phillip Marecaux and his wife, Andrea Millett Marecaux of Farmingdale, ME; two grandchildren, Luke Tyler Davis and Adyson McKenzie; a sister, Joan Phelan and her husband, Edward of Canton, MA; mother-in-law, Edith Thompson of Wellington, FL; sisters-in-law, Judy Marecaux Jones of So. Yarmouth, MA, and Shirley Knox of Wellington, FL; brother-in-law, Alan Thompson and his wife, Catherine of Newington, NH, many beloved nieces and nephews, and many special friends living near and far.

Besides his parents, Roger was predeceased by his brother, Richard “Dick” Marecaux.

A memorial service was celebrated at 1 p.m., on Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Ashland District School Auditorium, Presque Isle Road, Ashland, with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating. Calling hours were from 12 noon until the start of the service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of Roger’s family.
